You MAY Be Celebrating Some Of These Holidays This Month
Wednesday, May 1st, 2013
May 5th – Cinco De Mayo
Translates from Spanish to“the fifth of Mayâ€, this is a national holiday in Mexico and is celebrated by many
people in the US as well. This day celebrates the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, where the Mexican army defeated the French in an unlikely victory.
May 15th – Police Officer’s Memorial Day
Police Officer’s Memorial Day is a day to honor all police officers who have been killed or injured in the line of duty. Recent research shows that 140-160 officers are killed in the line of duty each year. That is a lot of fathers, brothers, sisters and mothers not returning to their families each year. Let’s show our support and respect to our local officers this day and every day for the sacrifice they make for us.
May 18th – Visit Your Relatives Day
Family can be a source of joy and frustration, sometimes at the same time! But they are often the ones that are there for you through thick and thin. So, on this day, show your appreciation for your family and spend some quality time with them.
May 27th – Memorial Day
Memorial Day is a U.S. holiday remembering the U.S. men and women who died during military service. All U.S. federal flags are flown at half staff today in honor of those who gave their lives for our country. Many local cemeteries will be having Memorial Day services typically hosted by local VFW’s or American Legions.
